Romantic cafes to bring your other half to
To me, Valentine’s Day is but a commercialised excuse; showing your love should be an everyday thing, not just an act on 14 February. If you’re not into surprising your date with flowers and heart-shaped chocolates, you can bring him or her out for a date at these romantic cafes with Insta-worthy desserts instead. Here’s a list of romantic cafes to consider!
IPluseighttwo is a new cafe co-founded by BTOB’s Seo Eunkwang. Located at Rendezvous Gallery, this dessert cafe will win your heart with their minimal and classy decor – think Kinfolk magazine. Fall in love with the wood and marble furniture, high ceiling, polished cement flooring, and lush plants placed all around. This cafe makes a great place to chill and have a HTHT with your partner.
Pamper your taste buds with their Siltarae Bingsu ($17.90). Siltarae refers to silk-like shaved ice which is different from the ice in typical bingsu. Dig your spoon into this and feel the rich, smooth, and sweet shaved ice dissolve in your mouth. You can choose from Banana, Chocolate, and Matcha flavours. Give their Injeolmi Toast ($8.50) a try as well if you and your date want more!

2. Enchanted Cafe
Prepare to be enchanted by this cafe, which is a five-minute walk away from Farrer Park MRT Station. Just as their name suggests, Enchanted Cafe is packed with whimsical decor that will lift your mood. The mismatched chairs, trees, and plants add an Alice in Wonderland vibe to the cafe.
Pamper your date and indulge in their delightful French Vanilla Crepe Cake ($7.90). Unlike regular crepe cakes, theirs are slightly thicker, making it more satisfying. The milky and silky layers of vanilla cream with the fluffy layers of crepe are just like you and your other half – a match made in heaven. Wash it down with their Iced Ondeh Ondeh which sets you back $6.90. Its balanced fusion of pandan, coconut, and gula melaka will seal the deal and leave you wanting more.

3. Marble Bistro

With white walls, marble tables, and contrasting black chairs, Marble Bistro will strike the heart of every minimalist. Tucked away in Everton Park, this quiet cafe can help you unwind in a peaceful environment. Melt into the gorgeous setting and don’t forget to snap beautiful photos of your partner.
Their Double Chocolate Brownie with Fig & Honey Ice-cream sets you back $8. The ice-cream is mixed with manuka honey and topped with cornflakes for an added crunch. Paired with the moist and rich brownie, the warm-and-cold duo is truly an impeccable match. They also have other simple yet delicious desserts such as Vanilla Bean Panna Cotta with Mango Puree ($6) and Chocolate Praline Cake ($7).

4. Shop Wonderland

Shop Wonderland is a gem in Telok Ayer. This cafe is great for hopeless romantics like me. They have a wall plastered with pieces of yellowed pages, making it an Insta-worthy backdrop. Apart from serving cakes, they also run a flower boutique upstairs on the second floor.

They have a variety of cakes available. One of the top-sellers would be their Gula Melaka Avocado ($8 per slice). The thick and moist layers of gula melaka sponge pairs well with the avocado gula melaka buttercream. You would expect heavy flavours but theirs is lightly bittersweet and refreshing, so you can enjoy it without feeling jelak. If you like trying out new flavours, treat yourself to their Rose Raspberry Pistachio ($8 per slice). Its floral notes and raspberry cream cheese will make your sweet date one to remember.
5. Yummo Chow
Nestled along Purvis Street is Yummo Chow, a cafe situated in the lobby of Hotel NuVe. The white walls, marble tables, velvet-cushioned chairs give it a posh and clean look, making this a great hideout for sophisticated couples. They are located near Bugis MRT Station but hidden from the crowded areas, so keep your eyes peeled for their signboard or you might miss it.
They are doing desserts right with their Ice-Cream Tempura ($11+). Vanilla ice-cream is stuffed in a bun and then deep-fried in tempura batter. The batter gives a crunch to the dish, and the drizzled caramel sauce adds a burnt sugary taste. You’ll understand why it is their best-selling dish once you’ve tried it. If you want something more atas, they also have Creme Brulee ($8+) to fix your sweet tooth.

If you and bae make a #fitspo couple, check out Beriwell! Situated at East Coast, this acai cafe adopts a cheery Hawaiian concept. Everything in this cafe screams tropical – pastel pink walls, hand-painted murals, rattan chairs, bright decor, and even stools with flamingo prints. Put a flower on your ear and you’re good to blend in with their vibe.

Indulge in their Superswirl ($6.90 for small, $9.90 for a large cup) which comes in two flavours – Acai and Coco Majik. If you want the best of both worlds, you can get their Twist which is a mix of both. Choose from their fresh selection of fruits and nuts for your toppings!

7. Blue Willow
Instead of the usual red colour for Valentine’s Day, go blue this year at Blue Willow, an Avatar-themed cafe along Clementi Road. Think blue fairy lights, blue food, and blue decor. You can choose to seat inside or if you want to be extra romantic, opt for the outdoor seats in the backyard. Once the sun has set, the place will be illuminated with blue hues, creating a magical ambience for both you and your partner.
For desserts, try their dainty and eye-catching Tea by Lupica ($7.50+). Crack open this dome and you’ll be greeted with layers of cake and mousse. It is decorated with chocolate bits at the bottom that surprisingly pops in your mouth. Wash down the sweetness with a glass of Potion of Pandora ($10+). Unlike the evil box in Greek mythology, this harmless drink contains a layer of cool blue butterfly pea tea, which goes well with the elderflower and lime juice it is mixed with.

8. The Affogato Bar

Coffee lovers out there, check out The Affogato Bar. For those who don’t know, affogato is a classic Italian dessert whereby hot espresso is topped with ice-cream. Tuck into their cosy corners with your date, with the smell of aromatic coffee wafting around the cafe, teasing your senses.
Get your daily dose of caffeine in dessert form with their La Opera ($15.90). A scoop of dark espresso ice-cream sits on layers of coffee buttercream, almond sponge, and chocolate ganache. Give it a shower with the dark espresso served in a petite flask and enjoy the deep flavours of the bittersweet dessert.

If you’re planning to bring your partner to Botanic Gardens, you can drop by Sugarhaus after a stroll in the park. Recharge yourself in this cool and cosy cafe, away from the humid weather. Sugarhaus is not to be confused with Fat Belly as they both share the same space. Do note that this unassuming cafe sells desserts all day long and they only have seats for 10 people.
Tell your partner that they mean The Galaxy ($8++) to you. Plunge your knife into the shiny dome-shaped cake filled with chocolate mousse and raspberry jelly. The sweet chocolate mousse and tart raspberry make it so delightful, with bits of crumbs at its rim adding some crunch to the dessert.

10. Wimbly Lu
Wimbly Lu has been around for quite a while and they opened another outlet along the Tyrwhitt Road a few months ago. Much like their outlet at Jalan Riang, this chic cafe is illuminated with warm lights on one side and natural sunlight in the indoor courtyard seats. With good lighting comes great selfies, so remember to take a shot with bae while waiting for your food!

A must-have here is their Waffle with Ice-cream ($8.50+), a classic you can share with your special someone. Their waffles are thick, with crispy exteriors and an airy core. Their ice-cream is made in-house and you can expect flavours such as chocolate truffle, salted caramel, cheesecake, and Milo. For more of their tasty sweets, check out their good ol’ Apple Pie ($7+) as well.
