2nd Serving: Ice Cream Cafe Hidden Behind A Vending Machine In Holland Drive

2nd Serving for mochi waffles and ice cream

We were recently tipped off by a foodie kaki about a chocolate-rich mochi waffle from a new ice cream cafe, 2nd Serving. They offer ice cream, waffles, and drinks, but are more notable for their tea-based items such as Tie Guan Ying ice cream and Lady Yang brewed tea.

Located at Holland Drive, this cafe is a short walk from Buona Vista MRT Station, and is hidden behind a red vending machine door. 2nd Serving’s vending machine door might be a ValueDollar version of the famous Zapangi’s one in Korea, but at least it’s delivering some funky vibes.

We were impressed by how intense the flavour of chocolate was in their Brownie Mochi Waffle ($8). At first glance, it would remind you of the popular charcoal waffle that made its rounds about five years ago. However, this mochi waffle is anything but gimmicky.

The waffle yielded a dense texture, and was studded with melted chocolate chips and mochi. The batter itself was flanked with the richness of cocoa, even on its own, without the presence of the chocolate chips. When paired with the mochi, every bite was decadent yet moreish. No jaw workouts were needed here, as the mochi was soft and stretchy.

The Brownie Mochi Waffle is a seasonal item that’s only available on Friday and Saturday. You can also get Pandan Mochi Waffle ($8) on other days, for a limited time only!

There are other delicious-sounding flavours such as Cookie Dough and Banana Honey Roasted Nuts, priced from $4.50 for a single scoop and $8 for a double scoop. We highly recommend the tea-based flavours such as Tie Guan Yin and Pu Er, as they stood out with a mellowed fragrance.

Their brewed tea, priced at $7.50, is also worth a try. Steeped in a bottom-dispensing teapot, each order is refillable for a single time. Fun fact: the cafe owners also sell tea blends, so it’s no wonder the tea-based items ranked higher amongst our group.
