This Yishun Eatery Has KL Hokkien Mee And Ipoh Curry Noodles, Made By The Chef Behind Soi 19

Daruma Tavern has KL hokkien mee

Yishun is not where you’d think to go to for craft beers and authentic KL-style Hokkien mee, but thanks to Daruma Tavern, you now have to add the Northside neighbourhood to your agenda.

Daruma Tavern is located near Friends Cafe, a HK-style cha chaan teng, in Yishun. The eatery has lately made a fair amount of buzz online for its signature dish, KL Dai Lok Mee ($7.90).

Unlike Singaporean hokkien mee, this version sees dark, sticky black sauce coating thicker yellow noodles, all tossed till glossy in a seafood stock.

The addition of lard, pork belly, and fish cakes add wok hei and brine to the overall dish. Have this with some sambal for added oomph, and you’ll be transported across the causeway via your tastebuds.

Other Malaysian delights to order include Ipoh Curry Noodles ($7.90), and Curry Chee Cheong Fun ($4.90), both served with lemak zhap.

According to 8days, another interesting thing about Daruma Tavern is that the chef behind the menu hails from Soi 19, a famed Thai wanton mee hawker, located in Jurong. You can get a similar take on the wanton mee here for $7.90.

Apart from the Dai Lok Mee, the overall menu at Daruma Tarvern is worth poring over too. Its fusion approach sees dishes like Western brunch fare, Japanese bites, and local eats across its pages. They have a comprehensive range of bar bites too, including Lok Lok ($12.90 for 10 skewers), and Grilled Japanese Squid ($19.90).

On the drinks front, you get craft beers thoughtfully sourced from boutique breweries. Non-alcoholic beverages are available too.
