If you frequent Westgate, you may have come across Giraffaās hoarding on Level 2 of the mall. The Japan-famous curry bun chain has officially opened in Singapore at the Jurong East shopping centre!
For the uninitiated, Giraffa is a popular kiosk in Kamakura, Japan. The brand is known for their deep-fried cheese curry buns, said to be crispy on the outside with a stretchy, cheesy curry middle.
Fun fact: Giraffa translates to giraffe in Italian. According to their website, the brand chose this name in hopes that their curry bread would be something customers āeagerly wait for with bated necks, just like a giraffe with a long neckā. Their famous Giraffa Curry Bread costs $5.60 at this new Singapore outpost. In Japan, it goes for 450Ā„, or S$3.90.
You get a milk bun thatās lightly breaded and deep-fried till crispy on the outside, generously loaded with a cheese and meat curry mix. The umami-packed curry, which comes with bits of pork and beef, is made with a whopping total of 30 spices, including cumin and turmeric. According to Giraffaās website, the curry is also prepared with honey, apples, tomatoes, and wine.
The sweet and fluffy milk bread complements the savoury and meaty curry, while the stretchy mozzarella adds a layer of richness and tang. Make sure you get your phone ready for the ultimate cheese pull shot!
While youāre there, check out Scarlett Supermarketās largest store, also located at Westgate. Thereās also Bingz, known for their crispy Chinese burgers, at the same mall.
