The rising cost of ingredients has made it hard for hawkers to continue selling their food without upping their prices. So when we chanced upon Hoe Kee Kitchen on a Can Eat! Hawker Food Facebook post, it sounded almost too good to be true.

Located in Jurong West 505 Market & Food Centre, Hoe Kee Kitchen is a Michelin Guide-recommended hawker stall that sells chicken rice from just $2.50 a plate. A queue forms as early as 10am when the stall opens, and they often sell out by 1pm to 2pm, ahead of their official closing time of 6pm.

You get a decent mound of fragrant rice, topped with silky smooth steamed chicken and cucumber slices. There’s even a small bowl of soup on the side! For a clearer idea of what’s included, check out the photo above, as submitted by a member of the Can Eat! Hawker Food Facebook Group.

Regulars love their tender chicken meat and flavourful rice, paired with their secret chilli sauce that boasts a strong garlic fragrance. And at $2.50 a portion, there’s really not much one can complain about.

Besides chicken rice, Hoe Kee Kitchen also offers char siew and roasted pork, If you want to make your meal more substantial, you can order a side of soya sauce veggies or bean sprouts to go along with the rice.
