Hotel buffets are a great way to check out a wide range of tasty food at fixed prices. From lavish cheese boards to decadent dessert spreads, there’s always something for everyone.
Seafood lovers might be familiar with the Lobster Rock n Roll Buffet at Hotel Jen Tanglin. This shellfish smorgasbord has a popular following, with a wide variety of Boston lobsters that are prepared 11 different ways.
Starting from 20 August 2019, J65 will have unique seafood-themed buffets for almost every day of the week! Be sure to bring along a friend as well, there’s a special two-to-go promotion where diners can get discounts when they come in pairs.
There’s no better way to start the week than a Seafood & Beer BBQ Buffet ($88++ for two diners) on Mondays.
My favourite part of this buffet is the outdoor barbecue station. Here, a range of freshly prepared dishes such as baby lobsters, squid, prawns, and sambal stingray are carefully cooked over charcoal by experienced chefs.
You can also jazz up your grilled seafood with a bountiful selection of house-made condiments including tomato salsa, sambal, and guacamole. I found myself heaping spoonfuls of the addictively spicy Thai chilli and coriander dip, which mixes well with the robust flavours from the barbecue.
Just like bacon and eggs, beer and barbecue are a match made in heaven. Top up $25++ to wash everything down with free-flow Tiger Beer; the crisp lager offers a refreshing finish that goes nicely with the wide range of smoky barbecued seafood.
Fans of salmon are in for a treat with the International Seafood Buffet ($88++ for two diners) on Tuesdays.
The Whole Baked Norwegian Salmon With Tomato Coulis is cooked whole to retain its flavour and juices better. The result is a moist and velvety smooth flesh that goes well with the umami-rich tomato coulis.
The Lobster Rock N’ Roll Buffet ($148++ for two diners) on Wednesday remains on the weekly roster, offering a tantalising selection of 11 different lobster dishes.
A dish to look out for is the Singapore Chilli-style Lobster. Boston lobsters are cooked in a piquant chilli crab-esque sauce that pairs equally well with the succulent lobster flesh. You can also get your hands dirty and mop every drop of the sweet and eggy chilli sauce with the fluffy deep-fried mantou.
Another dish to keep your bellies excited for is the Grilled Baby Lobsters that are infused in tarragon butter. They’re prepared on the spot, with each piece coming out piping hot. These lobsters may be smaller in size but are big on flavour.
Here’s what we’ve got to say about the Lobster Rock N’ Roll Buffet!
Those who’re craving for a taste closer to home will definitely find the Asian Seafood Buffet ($88++ for two diners) right up their alley. Available on Thursdays and Sundays, this buffet lets you enjoy an Asian-themed seafood treat at great prices.
Kam Heong Clams, or golden fragrant clams, is a popular Malaysian zi char dish. This flavour-packed dish combines a variety of ingredients, such as chilli padi, curry leaves, dried shrimp, curry powder, and soybean paste, taking these briny clams to the next level.
The Deep Fried Ebi Prawn with Wasabi Mayo feature prawns that are coated with a delicate layer of panko and fried to a golden brown. The wasabi mayo packs a real spicy punch, so make sure to go easy on it!
Cap off the week in style with the Seafood Madness Buffet ($116++ for two diners) on Fridays and Saturdays.
A mouth-watering selection of seafood on ice is available including lobsters, mussels, prawns, and even seasonal oysters. Unlike certain buffets where they can take ages to replenish the lobsters, the seafood station is always constantly full.
It’s not all about shellfish here. There’s also a generous selection of other dishes, such as Indian food, roast meats, and even free-flow salmon sashimi.
There’s also a wide selection of toothsome desserts that rotate daily. Look out for a mixture of both Asian and Western desserts and pastries. These include ang ku kueh, kueh dadar, a chocolate fondue station, and profiteroles.
With a unique seafood feast almost every day of the week, J65 ought to be a firm favourite for seafood lovers out there. Offering great value for money, the restaurant is definitely worth checking out.
