New Jeju-Inspired Korean Pub With Outdoor Grill Opens At The Arts House

Jeju Haenyeo opens Korean pub at The Arts House

Most people associate Jeju with its beaches and citrus groves. Jeju Haenyeo’s new outdoor pub takes inspiration from something less expected: the stone fire pits where haenyeo, the island’s famed women divers, would gather to warm up after a dive.

The new space has opened in the courtyard of The Arts House, a 10-minute walk from City Hall MRT Station. Open from 5pm to 12am, Wednesdays to Sundays, the Korean pub serves Jeju-inspired drinks and bar bites in an al fresco setting.

This is actually the brand’s second concept at The Arts House. Jeju Haenyeo already operates an indoor dining experience in the same building, centred around the island’s haenyeo and their tradition of free-diving for seafood without oxygen tanks.

The Jijim ($25++), AKA Korean pan-fried pancake, for example, arrives as raw batter for you to cook on a hot griddle. For something more hands-on, the Dosegi Ssam ($20++) comes with gochujang-glazed pork, lettuce, garlic, and ssamjang for you to wrap yourself.

For lighter bites, try the Hallabong Brie ($22++), which pairs warm cheese with citrus marmalade and dried tangerine crisps. Other interesting options include Oreum Corn Cheese ($18++), made with a whole pumpkin filled with corn and mozzarella, and K-Chicken Bites ($15++) served with a choice of gochujang or yangnyeom sauce.

The drinks menu is arguably the highlight, with Highballs are priced at just $8++, which is an absolute steal for the bar’s central location. Other cocktail options include Bada ($17++), inspired by the sea, Dongbaek ($21++) for Jeju’s winter camellias, and Sup ($16++), named after its forests.

There’s also Hallasan Soju ($18++ to $20++), made in Jeju using water sourced from the island’s volcanic bedrock.
