This Ex-Hotel Chef Serves Fresh Pizza From His HDB Window In Hougang

JrPizzeria serves pizza from an HDB window in Hougang

The smell of pizza greets you in the morning. But you’re not vacationing in Naples, Italy—you’re just a resident in good ol’ Hougang, Singapore. That’s what the neighbours of Joachim Loo, 24, experience each day as the young chef gets to work on his home-based business, JrPizzeria.

Though young, Joachim has already cut his teeth in hotel restaurants and private kitchens. JrPizzeria sees him transform a part of his living room into a pizza takeout, where fresh batches of Neopolitan-style pizza are made each day.

You’ll receive your order right through the window, where you can also catch a glimpse of Joachim in action. Right at the centre of his kitchen is a modern pizza oven, where each dough base is blasted at high heat until it puffs up into that chewy Neapolitan crust. Joachim also makes his sauces from scratch, including his signature pesto.

We absolutely loved the pesto sauce in the Mortadella & Pistachio Pesto ($23.50). This was a delectable combination of fresh burrata, nutty pistachio, and savoury mortadella, with pesto tying it all together.

Special mention has to go to the burrata, which crowned the dish with its delicate, milky richness. Its creamy interior spilled out beautifully when cut into, and we gladly mopped up all its goodness with each slice of pizza.

Another must-try is the Parma Ham Pizza ($23), layered with peppery wild rocket leaves, Casalingo prosciutto, and stracciatella, which is basically what’s on the inside of burrata.

The rest of the menu here consists of Spicy Salami Pizza ($16), “Hawaiian” Pizza ($16.50), and Classic Margarita ($13.90).

If you’d like to try some of these pizzas, be sure to order via this link. Walk-ins are welcome, but as Joachim works with limited dough each day, he may sell out by the time you arrive. Do note that this is takeaway only!
