Get Tsujihan-Inspired Seafood Kaisendon From $19.80++ In Clarke Quay

If you’re on FoodTok a lot like me, you would have seen videos of the viral Japanese restaurant Tsujihan in Japan. The famous dish has taken the internet by storm for its beautifully presented kaisendon. Just take a look at how the fish roe glistens in almost every video! These videos alone have been enough to tempt foodies to go to Japan to try it for themselves.

The chefs in Singapore are quick to pick up on food trends. Restaurants such as Kaunta Singapore have already been making their rendition of Tsujihan’s kaisendon. Now, Kappo Shunsui has jumped on the bandwagon with their Snow Fujiyama Kaisen-Don. 

This hearty bowl comes topped with dashi espuma bubbles: foam made by whipping seafood dashi, soya sauce, and mirin. 

The Snow Fujiyama Kaisen-Don is part of the Shunsui Special Kaisen Don Set which comes in three sizes: Nami ($19.80++), Jo ($$24.80++), and Tokujo ($29.80++). Each bowl comprises a wide variety of seafood, including tuna, white fish, salmon, whelk, roe, snow crab, and sea urchins. 

The bigger the set, the more seafood you get! You also get chawanmushi, miso soup, and pickled ginger to complete the meal. Here’s a tip: ask for more rice of up to 300g—there’s no extra charge incurred.

Each scoop of rice with raw fish was truly decadent. The flavours of the fatty salmon, buttery uni, and briny ikura all came together harmoniously to create fresh seafood goodness. The dashi espuma bubbles then added a layer of creamy umami, elevating the overall flavour of this dish. 

As the restaurant specialises in omakase, they make delicious sushi too. The lunch menu includes Today’s Sushi Set ($34.80++), which comes with an assortment of nigiri and maki rolls made with fresh ingredients available for the day. This set comes with chawanmushi and miso soup too. 

The cosy restaurant seats about 30 people, with a food preparation station in the middle where the chefs slice and serve right in front of you. We had the pleasure of witnessing head chef Oyama-san’s skills as he crafted our dishes with finesse and precision.
