Maruhachi Donburi & Curry has boomed since their opening a couple years ago. To date, they’ve brought their restaurant-quality katsu don and curry to eight hawker centres islandwide, from Punggol to Sembawang. Come 1 May, they’ll open their very first Eastside eatery in Bedok.
The new Maruhachi Donburi & Curry will be located in Bedok North, giving Easties easy access to the popular kastu curry dishes from the eatery.
The stall was founded by chef August Wijaya, who had experience working at a notable katsu specialist restaurant in town, before branching out on his own.
Diners can expect a wide variety of pork cutlet dishes, as week as unagi, and tempura options on the side.
A must-order is their Black Pig Katsu Set ($14.80), a teishoku-style serving of Iberico pork cutlet breaded with panko, and deep-fried till golden and crackling.
The Pork Katsu Curry ($9.90) is another go-to for us. You get the crispy pork, along with a hearty, lightly spiced curry, and fluffy pearl rice.
The Bedok opening also comes with two exclusives: a Cheese Menchi Katsu Curry ($10.80) and a Cheese Menchi Katsu Set ($12.80).
Both use thick-cut, premium pork from the US, with Australian cheddar cheese in the middle. The combo is breaded with panko, then fried, resulting in tender pork and melty, gooey cheese in the middle.
The katsu is also fried in cottonseed oil, which is a healthier option.
The cheese dishes are both exclusives at Bedook till 14 May 2022. After that date, it’ll be available at all Maruhachi outlets islandwide, only up to 30 June 2022.
