Matcha lovers and tea connoisseurs, you probably already heard of Matchaya. Good news: the beloved homegrown Japanese tea brand is debuting a kakigori series, titled Whimsical Cloud, and here’s everything you need to know.

The new lineup will feature five new kakigori creations, AKA traditional Japanese shaved ice desserts.

Look forward to creations such as the Signature Koichi Azuki ($22++), made with single-origin ceremonial matcha, and Burnt Butter Houjicha ($18++), for a roasted tea flavour.

Other highlights: Chocolate Tiramisu ($18++), Strawberry Yoghurt ($20++), and Mango Coconut ($20++), inspired by the iconic mango pomelo sago dessert.

If you’re new to the brand, here are some of their signature drinks: the Koicha Latte ($9.50++) features ceremonial-grade Uji matcha that’s said to be rich and intense in flavour. For something more mellow, the Matcha Latte (from $6.50++) has a more balanced flavour, suitable as a beginner-friendly drink. Image credit: Matchaya

Matchaya also offers a range of mains and desserts. You can enjoy their Signature Matchaya Chicken Katsu ($13++), a rice burger with chicken katsu, matcha mayonnaise, tamago, and lettuce.

Finish your meal with their tea-infused desserts, such as the Signature Matchaya Yuzu ($10++) and Kurogama ($8++), a black sesame rolled cake.
