Northpoint City Has New Food Spots To Check Out—Famous Muslim-Owned Ayam Geprek, Jumbo Hotdogs And More

New eateries at Northpoint City in Yishun

Amidst the debate on whether the east or the west is the best side to be in, most people tend to forget that the north has lots to offer, too. A prime example is Northpoint City, the largest shopping mall in Northern Singapore. Located right next to Yishun MRT Station, this mall has plenty of shops and restaurants to check out, including some new additions to their directory. If you’re in the area, be sure to not miss out on these new food outlets.

If you’re looking for some delicious ayam geprek, AKA Indonesian smashed crispy fried chicken, Papa Ayam (#B1-155, South Wing) has got you covered.

This Muslim-owned eatery claims to be the first ayam geprek brand in Singapore and they offer the dish in a variety of flavours.

For something filling, get the Papa Ayam Box ($10.40) which consists of ayam geprek, white rice, Indomie, crispy fried chicken skin, and shrimp crackers.

Fans of salted egg can get the Ayam Geprek Salted Egg With Indomie ($7.90), or if you’d like something with a twist, the Ayam Geprek Nasi Goreng ($9.70) is worth a shot.

Patrons also have the option to choose their spice level for the sambal, ranging from Level 1 to 15. Their sambal is also handmade with a pestle and mortar.

If you’re feeling adventurous, Papa Ayam also has the ‘WTF Challenge’, whereby you can challenge yourself to a fiery food battle with the Ayam Geprek Level 27. This dish is extremely spicy, but if you succeed, you’ll manage to crown yourself as champion and be put on Papa Ayam’s wall of fame.

For a quick snack, head down to Sixth Floor Oyster Cake (#B2-147, South Wing). What initially started as a humble home-based business has now expanded to a second outlet in Northpoint City.

Specialising in Fuzhou oyster cakes, a snack that is becoming more obscure in Singapore, this stall garnered queues up to two hours long when it first debuted.

Go for their bestselling Original ($3.50) flavour, which is stuffed with shrimp, minced pork, fresh oysters, and chives.

We also recommend the Kimchi ($3.50) flavour for a spicy and tangy kick.

Another popular item on Sixth Floor Oyster Cake’s menu are the Springrolls that go for $2.80 for three pieces.

This stall also sells other fried snacks such as Curly Fries ($2.80/cup), Sweet Potato Fries ($2.80/cup), and more!

Tucked away in Northpoint City’s South Wing is Skillet By The Fat Boss (#01-151), another new restaurant that offers Western fare.

Their name comes from the way they serve and cook their meals: on a piping hot cast iron skillet. Unlike other Western restaurants, they’ve also got unique dishes such as Prawn Gambas ($17.90) and Teriyaki Whole Squid With Thai Chilli ($15.90).

Sporting a maple-syrup glazed skin, and tender, juicy meat is the Signature Maple Roast Chicken (half) ($17.90)

The dish is accompanied by creamy and cheesy potato gratin, baby spinach, and mushroom cream. The restaurant marinates its chicken overnight and uses fresh chicken from Yishun Wet Market to ensure juicy and tenderness. The chicken is then roasted in a blend of secret spices and basted in its juices.

For more meaty delights, the Sausage Platter Trio ($15.90) consists of sausages in three different flavours: smoked beef, beer-infused pork, and cheesy chicken, served with a side of black pepper sauce.

Seafood lovers can go for the hearty, saffron-infused Skillet Seafood Paella ($23.90) instead.

Another newly-opened halal-certified restaurant in Northpoint City is Tokyo Kitchen (#02-128/129, South Wing).

Boasting a warm and cosy interior, this restaurant serves delectable Japanese cuisine.

Try the Mixed Fried Combo Omurice ($19.90++) if you love Japanese curry rice and seafood tempura.

The all-time favourite Beef Steak Rice Set ($18.90++) comes with plain rice and sweet corn soup and is paired with mushroom sauce. Do note that Tokyo Kitchen offers 50% off all beverages with the purchase of any Sliced Tart ($9.35++) on weekdays from 2pm to 5pm.

After your meal, be sure to grab some cream puffs to-go from Beard Papa’s (#01-153, South Wing)

As part of their November specials, indulge in the Honey Butter Cream Puff in chestnut or vanilla custard flavour.

The chestnut cream puff will set you back $3.60, while the vanilla custard, $3.10

Alternatively, if you prefer to stick to the classics, the original Pie Cream Puff in the fresh cream ($3.30) flavour is worth a shot.

You can also check out Beard Papa’s Custard Cheese Baked Pie ($3.50) for something richer, cheesy, and decadent.
