If you frequent Novena, you may have come across a new Japanese cafe in the area: Otter & Pebbles. The spacious cafe, located right next to Oasia Hotel Novena, sees Muji-esque interiors with neutral tones, alongside an aesthetic outdoor dining area.

Look forward to Japanese-inspired mains on the menu, including the Unagi Ochazuke ($28.90++): sweet-savoury grilled eel slabs paired with tamago cubes and pickled Japanese plums, finished with sencha broth on the side for you to pour over. The Salmon Ochazuke ($24.90++), which replaces the unagi with a pan-seared salmon fillet, is equally comforting.

Noodle fans can opt for the popular Baco-Mentaiko Udon ($17.90++) instead, featuring thick udon coated in creamy mentaiko sauce and bacon, crowned with an onsen egg and more mentaiko.

If you want something lighter, you won’t go wrong with the Tamago San ($15.90++), comprising custardy egg between white bread, topped with mentaiko mayo and torched for a smoky finish.

While you’re here, don’t miss out on their souffle pancakes for dessert. The Goes Nut for Pistachio ($17.90++) flavour is a crowd favourite for good reason: you get two fluffy and airy pancakes drenched in pistachio cream, topped with more pistachio paste, and served with pistachio gelato.

If you’re feeling adventurous, consider the Cheese But In Blue ($15.90++) pancakes, made with torched blue cheese. Do note that the pancakes require a 20-minute wait.

Otter & Pebbles also offers a wide range of drinks, including matcha latte and coffee. For the former, prices start at $6++ for an Original Matcha Latte. You can also try their Black Sesame Latte (from $7.50), spiked with earthy black sesame paste, or the Strawberry Matcha ($8++), which has been making its rounds all over social media lately.
