Pasar Karat: Huge Night Market In JB With Cheap Street Food, Opens Till 2AM

Pasar Karat is a huge night market in JB

Johor Bahru has a handful of night markets, but Pasar Karat is one of the most popular. Located in Jalan Segget, this sprawling pasar malam is rated quite highly on Google, with patrons praising the variety of stalls and cheap eats that can be found here.

The next time you’re headed to JB for a quick trip, it’s worth making Pasar Karat one of your pitstops for food and some jalan jalan. Here’s everything you need to know, and what you need to eat when you’re there!

How to get to Pasar Karat

Pasar Karat takes place across a few streets in Jalan Segget. Taking a Grab or a taxi would be the easiest way to get there, and it’s just a 10-minute drive from the JB Checkpoint. Other landmarks around include the JB Sentral station, R&F Mall, and Johor Bahru City Square.

Pasar Karat opening hours

Pasar Karat JB is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 6pm to 2am. All the stalls tend to only really get going around 8:30pm to 9pm, so bear that in mind when planning your visit!

What to eat at Pasar Karat

The night market has a wide selection of food stalls, from old-school to unique treats. Some bites you can look forward to include cup corn, coconut ice creams, takoyaki, waffles, fruits, buns, and cold drinks. We’ve also spotted trendy dragon’s breath ice cream available there!

When Eatbook visited, we made our way around the night market with an RM50/~S$14.15 and managed to eat at a fair few stalls.

We recommend trying Lokching, a grilled sausage stall, where you can choose from quite a white range of different sausages, which are then charcoal grilled to order. Look out for the stall with the Thai flag. We spent RM13/~S$3.70, and got five different sausages.

There’s also a Milkshake stall, where you can get a yoghurt milkshake for RM5/~S$1.40. There are many different flavours to choose from, including taro, strawberry, chocolate and the like.

One stall we particularly enjoyed was Mi Siput, where you get the namesake dish for RM3/~S$0.90. For those who don’t know, mi siput is a traditional snack from Muar. It’s a fried flour cracker served with a delicious, sweet sambal tumis.

According to locals, this night market isn’t particularly known for their food and is better known as a shopping and thrifting gem. Don’t let that deter you though, as it’s still a worthwhile visit.
