Starbucks Singapore Has Okinawa Brown Sugar And Matcha Taro Foam Lattes This Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is coming early this year, with festivities starting as early as January. Starbucks is kicking off 2020 by bringing back their Okinawa Brown Sugar Latte (from $7.60) that’s brimming with robust sweetness. The drink is topped with a swirl of whipped cream, and drizzled with more brown sugar. 

Starbucks will also be introducing some new limited-time drinks, along with desserts for the season. They’re even adding a new dairy-free option for drinks, in the form of Oatly’s vegan oat milk.

A newcomer this year is the Black Sesame Pure Matcha Latte with Taro Foam (from $7.60). The luxurious and creamy drink combines three different and distinct flavours to get a fragrant, rich combination. Black sesame sauce is mixed with matcha to form the nutty base of the drink, while the vibrant taro foam tops it off with its pleasant starchiness.

Rounding off their festive drink range is the Pure Matcha Latte ($6.90). Though small in stature, and not as eye-catching as the other two contenders, this tiny powerhouse boasts sheer quality. The smooth latte is made with microground matcha, with leaves collected during the first harvest— which is when the highest quality tea leaves are produced. Steamed milk is added to the drink for sweetness, but you can request it unsweetened for the true matcha experience. 

Since this year is the Year of the Rat, it’s apt that Starbucks’ newest pastry, Say Cheese Mango Cheesecake ($6.90), is shaped like a wedge of savoury Swiss cheese. The cake is light and sweet, with a cracker base and white chocolate topping it off. The cheesy dessert is sure to satisfy your sweet tooth, and send cheese-lovers scampering to get a nibble.

The breakfast menu has expanded quite a bit too, with dishes such as the Truffle Scrambled Egg, Chicken, Kale & Cheese Wrap (from $6.90), Scrambled Egg & Turkey Ham Pita (from $5.90) and Overnight Oats with Pomegranate, Apricot, Fruit & Nut Mix ($5.80). We’re gunning to try the truffle egg wrap as it’s not often you get truffle-based items at Starbucks. Do note that you’ll need to drop by before 11:30 am to get the breakfast set meals.
