Get The Viral Banana Pudding Matcha At This Popular Hougang Cafe

Sweedy Patisserie is a cafe in Hougang with popular matcha desserts

Banana pudding matcha has been making waves on social media platforms recently, and Sweedy Patisserie in Hougang is one of the latest cafes to hop on the trend. Known for its creative matcha desserts, this cafe offers a range of sweet and savoury desserts and drinks for matcha lovers.

Go straight for the Banana Pudding Matcha ($9.80+), featuring an iced matcha latte topped with a dollop of banana pudding. Made with banana slices, house-made vanilla custard, whipped cream, and Biscoff cookie crumbs, we appreciated that the topping wasn’t too cloying.

The matcha latte was not overly sweet or thick in consistency, so we recommend giving the pudding and latte a good mix for a well-balanced sip.

Pistachio lovers will like the Pistachio Dirty Latte ($8.80+), which is served with delicious pistachio cream atop an iced latte. The salty pistachio cream zhnged up the bittersweet coffee, giving it a rich, nutty depth.

For a hearty bite, opt for the Crispy Matcha Waffle ($16.80+), which boasts a beautiful medley of crispy and chewy textures. This dessert combines toasted waffles, icy cold gelato, and dense matcha kunafa.

We really enjoyed the crispy matcha kunafa spread on the thick croffle. It was a smart move to add a large scoop of vanilla ice cream to create a delightful contrast of temperatures with each bite.

Alternatively, the Triple Cheese Matcha Sammie ($15.80+) is a good option for those who prefer something savoury.

The dish was impressive in appearance: the thick brioche boasted a layer of melted cheese that spewed out from the side of the bread. Upon tearing the sandwich apart, beautiful layers of cheddar, mozzarella, and matcha cream cheese gave us a satisfying cheese pull.

The brioche had a cookie-like texture on the outside, and the sweet-savoury cheese paired well with the bitter matcha powder sprinkled atop the bread. We recommend sharing this dish between three and four people since it’s pretty filling!

The cafe isn’t the most conveniently located as it’s a 15-minute bus ride from Hougang MRT Station, but the warm ambience and thoughtfully crafted menu will surely make your trip worthwhile. Also, the cafe seats about 25 people at once!
