Teochew Meat Puff Opens A Stall in Woodlands So You Can Get This Snack Without A Pasar Malam

Get your Teochew Meat Puff at Woodlands Industrial Park

Once the stuff of pasar malam dreams, Teochew Meat Puff has now set up permanent shop at 71 Woodlands Industrial Park E9, WAVE 9. The stall, selling assorted meat puffs, started operations on 17 September 2020, and queues have been pegged at two to three hours long. According to their Facebook page, their most updated hours of operation are from 11am to 8pm daily (or sold out).

These UFO-shaped meat puffs are a spin on the traditional Teochew oyster cakes, filled with more marinated meat than any old school oyster cake in Singapore. The art of making these traditional delicacies is a dying trade, with only a handful of oyster cake stalls around.

Teochew Meat Puff has six puffs on their menu: Oyster ($3.50), Prawn ($3.50), Octopus ($3.50), Crab ($3.50), Scallop ($4) or Vegetable ($2). All of these, except Vegetable ($2) come with their signature filling of marinated minced pork, deep-fried to golden brown discs.

Each meat puff takes 15 minutes to fry, so expect a long wait to get your order.

There is no limit on the number of meat puffs you can purchase in a single order, but delivery and pre-orders are not available. You also can’t add on to an existing order, so be sure to know exactly how much you want to take away when you reach the front of the queue.

In the meantime, each receipt is numbered so you do have the option to take a seat and wait in the coffee shop. Teochew Meat Puff is looking to expand its operations in order to cut down on waiting times.

The four-day-old stall has announced on its Facebook page that if their signboard lights are off, it means that they have sold out of their meat puffs for the day. Complaints have arisen because of the lack of a proper queuing system, so it may be prudent to give them a while to sort themselves out and hopefully the queues will get shorter after some time.
