The East has been on a roll lately, with new food places popping up left and right. We’ve seen new Japanese izakaya such as Ne Ne Neko, and affordable hidden gems including Chicken Pot. Here’s another cafe to add to your ‘East side, best side’ argument—A Beautiful Day Cafe Tearoom + Cocktail Bar.
The cafe was previously located at Changi City Point but has now shifted to Parkside Residences, located on the first floor of Paya Lebar Quarter, five minutes away from Paya Lebar MRT Station. Here, they also unveiled a new menu with Western-Asian elements. The cafe has a Victorian-style interior, adorned with various decorations that make you feel like you’re in a Disney set.Â
We recommend trying the Aburi Truffle Beef Chazuke ($19.90+) and the Aburi Salmon and Lobster Bisque Chazuke ($21.90+). For those who don’t know, chazuke is a traditional Japanese dish that involves pouring tea or dashi AKA soup stock over cooked rice.Â
My personal favourite is the Aburi Truffle Beef—it uses a house-made Bak Kut Teh collagen broth, which is very fragrant but slightly spicy. While this may seem awkward, it surprisingly went well together!
A Beautiful Day Cafe is also known for its unique variety of tea that’s served in a crystal bottle. The server recommended the Silver Needle White Tea ($12.90+), which has a sweet, velvety taste and mouthfeel.Â
If you’re someone who enjoys lighter flavours, the silver needle white tea is perfect for you. It has slight floral notes and is mildly sweet. This tea is also said to be good for digestion, so we would recommend having this after your meal!
Fans of iced teas should try their Strawberry Oolong Teatail ($9.90+) and Iced Earl Grey CoffTEA Latte ($7.30+). The former is a unique variation of tea and cocktails—it contains strawberry champagne, tie guan yin tea, strawberry, raspberry, syrup, and mint leaves. This sweet yet refreshing tea is perfect if you’re looking for a thirst-quencher in Singapore’s heat.Â
The CoffTEA is a mixture of speciality coffee and artisan tea. Though my colleague and I found the Earl Grey tea to be slightly astringent, we found this combination rather unique as it was not commonly found elsewhere.Â
A Beautiful Day Cafe has many elements that make you feel as if you’re a Disney princess. My colleague and I loved the nature-themed wallpaper and makeshift fireplace, giving the place a very whimsical yet inviting feel. We also appreciated the use of various furniture such as sofas and wooden chairs to promote a more relaxing atmosphere.
The cafe also has a pet-friendly outdoor seating area, so feel free to bring your furry friends down!Â
