Abundance Launches XL Crispy Pork Chop, Taiwanese Oyster Omelette And More

Abundance launches new Taiwanese dishes at Century Square

Good news for Easties: Abundance, a popular Taiwanese restaurant and bar in Singapore, has launched a new menu at their Century Square outlet!

Fans can look forward to four new dishes, exclusively available at the brand’s Tampines location. Thereafter, the new items will be rolled out to their Jalan Besar and OG Redhill restaurants.

Start your meal with the new Taiwanese Oyster Omelette ($15.90++), inspired by the orh ah jian you’d find on the streets of Taiwan. Here, the batter is tweaked to suit our local palate; it’s crispier and less starchy than the original rendition. You’ll find a few plump oysters tucked within the omelette, best paired with the tangy-sweet sauce and crispy edges of the batter.

I’m not usually a fan of Taiwan-style oyster omelette as it’s often too stodgy for my liking, so I was pleased with this thin and crispy rendition. This version wasn’t too starchy, too, which made it easy to enjoy.

The Spicy Sesame Dumplings ($10.90++) are equally great for sharing. You get five meaty pork and shrimp dumplings drenched in a spicy sesame sauce, topped with roasted peanuts. All you need is a bowl of plain rice or noodles to mop up all that leftover creamy, umami-packed zhup.

For something nourishing and comforting, consider the Winter Melon Pork Ribs Soup ($13.90++). This classic Taiwanese dish features pork ribs that are marinated and deep-fried before being added to a savoury soup base.

While the ribs were tender and meaty, the soggy batter was a little off-putting. Perhaps it comes down to personal preference, but we’d have preferred the ribs served separately to retain their crunch.

Lastly, there’s the XL Crispy Pork Chop Rice ($13.90++), my favourite dish from the new menu. It comes with a generous bed of pearl rice topped with crispy lard pieces and a savoury soy-infused sauce, crowned with a giant slab of fried pork chop.

The pork chop was well-seasoned with just the right amount of batter, while remaining juicy in the middle. I also appreciated the addition of tangy pickled vegetables to cut through the richness.

Do note that the new menu is exclusive to Abundance Century Square and will be rolled out to the other outlets in the near future.
