If you love fresh pastries as much as we do, you’ll know just how prices can add up when you order a few at once. However, that’s not the case at Ah B Bakery, an under-the-radar bakery chain that has seven outlets at the point of writing, including Bukit Merah, Orchard, and Ang Mo Kio. They’re also halal-certified!

Founded in 1982, the homegrown bakery chain has been quietly offering a wide assortment of pastries, cakes, and muffins, mostly under $3 a pop.

Among the plethora of fresh bakes, regulars love their Burn Custard Danish ($3.50), a flaky pastry filled with custard, baked till lightly caramelised on top.

The creamy and eggy custard is said to go well with the buttery layers of the pastry, while the caramelised top adds a nice depth of flavour.

Besides this, you’ll also find a good assortment of other laminated dough pastries such as Strawberry Danish ($3.50) and Blueberry Danish ($3.50), along with a Milky Danish ($3.20), which looks like a kouign amann in bun form.

Don’t miss out on their muffins too, with flavours including Blueberry Cheese ($2.80) and Red Velvet Custard ($2.80), alongside the locally inspired Ondeh Ondeh ($2.80) and Orh Nee ($2.80).

Otherwise, they have freshly baked Egg Tarts too, well-priced at $1.80 each.

Do note that the bakes sold at each outlet may differ in price and range, though the muffin and pastry signatures seem to be the same across all stores.

For more delicious bakes at wallet-friendly prices, check out Pan Fresco, another hidden gem bakery in Shaw Plaza Balestier. Alternatively, if you’re heading to JB soon, visit Ukiyo Cafe for IG-worthy cakes in Mount Austin!
