Get Ice Cream With Edible Japanese “Flowers” At This New Dessert Van In Bugis

Atlr. 72’s has a new flowering ice cream truck in Bugis

Here’s an exciting piece of news: Ajinomoto’s Atlr.72 has just launched a new dessert van pop-up serving “Flowering Ice Cream” at Bugis Junction from 28 March to 16 April 2025. What’s special about these desserts is that they are shaped to look like flowers! And yes, if the brand name sounds familiar to you, Ajinomoto Co. is indeed the same company that popularised Monosodium Glutamate (MSG).

There are three flavours of ice cream to choose from: Vanilla with mochi, Chocolate with lemon peel, and Salty Caramel with nuts. A single scoop is priced at $7 while a double scoop is priced at $13. Each cup of “flowering ice cream” is adorned with beautiful sugar cookies meant to replicate colourful flowers, making for an elegant dessert.

Fun fact: these ice creams are made with Solein, a sustainable protein that does not require the use of animals or plants, but is instead derived from carbon dioxide! The chocolate and salted caramel flavoured ice creams are non-dairy, and are made with coconut milk and oat milk instead. The texture of the frozen desserts is rich and creamy nonetheless.

If you are a stickler for the basics, get the Vanilla with mochi, which pairs a smooth and milky vanilla ice cream with chewy mochi bits. Else, the Chocolate with lemon peel is another great choice, featuring bittersweet cocoa-flavoured ice cream with citrusy undertones.

Our favourite of the three, however, was the Salty Caramel with nuts, which had an oat milk base. This accounted for the ice cream’s creamy texture and malty notes, which paired perfectly with the nutty, salty flavours of the ice cream.

When their pop-up at Bugis ends, we heard that the ice cream truck will be making its way to Joo Chiat next, so keep your eyes peeled for more information!
