Breakfast Grill, a popular brunch cafe in East Coast, has a new dinner menu with mains that are all under $30+. Previously a daytime-only cafe, they’re now open from 5:30pm to 9:30pm daily, except for Mondays and Tuesdays.
Breakfast Grill is best known for their affordable al-day sandwiches, in hearty flavours such as Croque Monsieur ($13+) and Hot Chick ($16+): deep-fried chicken, cheesy Jalapeno Cheetos, and house-made garlic aioli.
For dinner, you can expect mains that are mostly under $25+ each. There’s the Beer Battered Fish & Chips ($24.50+), starring beer-battered halibut, lemon-pepper chips, and house-made tartar.
The fish was flaky and tender within, while the batter was well-seasoned with a light and fluffy crumb. We just wished the coating was crispier!
The Truffle Mushroom Orzo ($20+) fared better; the pasta was cooked to al dente, amped up with umami notes from the portobello and truffle oil.
Finished with a generous shaving of parmesan and a torched lemon wedge for acidity, this dish was our favourite of the lot.
Another pasta dish worth trying is the Pesto Ravioli ($21+): spinach ravioli and cherry tomatoes in a bright and zesty house-made pesto sauce with ricotta.
Else, there’s the Crab Herb Lasagna Melt ($20+) if you prefer tomato-based pasta. This reimagined “lasagna” comes with actual crab meat, minced beef, and chorizo.
For those craving something rich and indulgent, you won’t go wrong with the Mentaiko Mac & Cheese Udon ($18+).
The udon noodles are drenched in an over-the-top cheese and mentaiko sauce, then baked till golden on top. Bits of fresh prawn add a sweetness to the dish.
If you need a caffeine hit at this point, order the Iced Sea Salt Mocha ($7.50+), the newest addition to Breakfast Grill’s coffee menu. This salty-sweet beverage comprises fresh espresso with chocolate syrup, topped with a sea salt-spiked foam.
To get to Breakfast Grill via public transport, take the train to Dakota or Eunos MRT Station. The former is a 13-minute bus ride away, while the latter is an eight-minute journey by bus, followed by a five-minute walk.
Another new and noteworthy cafe to check out is Surrey Hills Grocer at Holland Village! Otherwise, check out our guide to the best cafes in the East for a more comprehensive guide.
