As a Westie, I fawn over the plethora of food options those living in the East enjoy. It feels to me that life is more happening on the other side of the island, especially when most big pasar malams, i.e. Geylang Bazaar, tend to be held in that area. With Bukit Panjang’s pasar malam, Westies like myself get a chance to see what the fuss is about.
Situated in front of Zhenghua-Senja Square RC, this pop-up night market is just a stone’s throw away from Jelapang LRT Station. From now till 10 November 2019, you’ll get to try out a range of street food from Indonesia, Thailand, Taiwan, and more.
Have a bite of the popular Indonesian snack, Pisang Keju. This deep-fried banana fritter is similar to our local goreng pisang but with the glorious addition of cheese.

Although it’s pungent, Stinky Fermented Tofu definitely tastes better than it smells. Other classic Tawainese street food which you can get your hands on include Sweet Potato Balls ($3 for 10 pieces) and Barbecued Oyster Mushroom. The former is a favourite amongst pasar-malam-goers, with its chewy texture and sweet taste.Â

Satisfy your Thai cravings with some Bangkok Lok Lok, which only sets you back $0.80 per stick. These fried skewers of meat and vegetables make for a great snack as you explore the rest of the night market.
For some milky goodness, grab a cup of Thai Iced Tea ($2.50) with flavours such as plum tea, green tea, and bandung. If you can’t decide which to order, get their half-and-half cup ($4.50) and score two flavours. Indulge in some Thai desserts such as Mango Sticky Rice ($4.50) and Thai Nutella Pancake ($4).Â

For more sweet treats, get their Souffle Pancakes in original, chocolate, and strawberry flavours, and Kueh TuTu ($3.50 for five pieces) by Chubtutu. This local snack comes in traditional flavours including coconut, and more interesting twists such as nutella and otah.
Once you’ve had your fill of these sweet and savoury snacks, head over to the mini carnival area and have a go at the old school shooting game stalls.
