This Teahouse In JB Lets You Dress Up Like A Hanfu Character, Has Claypot Milk Tea Too

Cam Tea & Ember Cafe has milk tea sets and hanfu dress-up

Mount Austin is a must-visit for many Singaporeans who visit Johor Bahru—it’s a foodie’s haven chock full of aesthetic cafes, lok lok stalls, and numerous hawker gems. If you’re looking for a unique experience away from the usual cafe-hopping, we’ve got just the thing for you: Cam Tea & Ember Cafe is a Chinese-style teahouse offering stove-boiled tea, tea snack platters, and a hanfu dress-up experience!

The cafe boasts a relaxed and welcoming vibe, and the staff is more than happy to make you feel right at home. Before placing your order, take a seat at one of the cosy, camping-esque wooden tables—each equipped with its own electric stove.

The menu is extensive and offers a range of hot and cold teas, as well as roasted milk tea. We highly recommend their Roasted Milk Tea Sets, which allow you to brew your own tea while enjoying it with delectable snacks.

We opted for the Roasted Rose Black Milk Tea Set, the most affordable option. Priced at RM36.80 (~S$10.50), this set allows you to choose four sweet or savoury snacks to accompany your beverage. We decided to get the Glutinous Rice Cake, Black Sesame Balls, Green Bean Cookie, and Cherry Tomatoes.

Some snacks can also be grilled on the stove. When grilled, the Glutinous Rice Cake takes on a flavour and texture similar to nian gao. This would be a popular snack for kids who enjoy sticky and chewy treats!

As for the Green Bean Cookie, it can be enjoyed as is to savour its slightly starchy and earthy flavour.

The roasted milk tea is exceptionally creamy—great for those who prefer their beverages super gao. It’s slightly sweeter than regular milk tea, with prominent floral notes and a velvety texture.

If you prefer cold beverages, try their selection of claypot milk teas. They come in generous portions that can be enjoyed by two to three people.

For something refreshing, go for the Gardenia Coconut Light Milk Tea (RM23.80/~S$6.73). All claypot milk teas come with a mochi stick containing two chewy lychee mochi, and seven random toppings. Options include Peach Popping Balls, “Huat” Mahjong Chocolate, Sweet Red Bean and more. You can also request specific items if something catches your eye.

If you’d like to fulfil your Chinese period drama fantasies, complement your tea tasting with a fun hanfu dress-up experience. Priced at just RM29.90 (~S$8.54), the package includes one set of hanfu for rent, along with a simple hairdo and an ancient fan as prop.
