First created thousands of years ago, cheese was once believed to be accidentally created by storing milk incorrectly. Since then, cheese has been associated with European sophistication and general classiness, given its layered flavours. Then it came to Singapore. And we, as Singaporeans, decided to make it part of buffets, because who hates this rich, savoury goodness? Nobody, that’s who. Here are nine restaurants with free-flow cheese for days you need a food coma.

Perched on the 55th floor of Marina Bay Sands is Club 55. Their Cheese and Chocolate Buffet ($48++) features over 40 chocolatey desserts, and 12 varieties of cheeses. The cheeses here are presented as blocks and wheels, and served as stand-alone bites as compared to cheese dips. Stunning views of the Marina Bay area and Singapore’s skyline are complimentary.

Charcoal Thai is a mookata joint that is nothing if not creative. For example, they’ve got Durian Steamboat on the menu! But for something slightly less out there, go for their Cheese Mookata Set ($14.95++) on top of their usual Mookata Buffet (from $15.95++). Instead of a soup, the trough is filled with gooey dipping cheese for maximum decadence. Things might get jelak after a while, but at least you’ll be all filled up.

The cheese at Hook On Steamboat is made of Cheddar Jack and mozzarella, to ensure optimum cheese pull and umami flavour. Choose between their Deluxe (from $20.90+) and Premium (from $30.70+) menus, and tick off BBQ Nacho Cheese on the soup base. The cheese sauce might be too salty to cook foods in, so grill them on the BBQ plate, and dip your items into the cheese instead. When things get too jelak, swap the cheese sauce for a more traditional soup base!
Hook On Steamboat will close on 27 Aug 2017, and will reopen at a new address on 5 Sept 2017. Check out their Facebook page for more details.
