Diner’s Shack: Popular Teochew Fish Soup With XL Batang Slices At Fortune Centre

Tucked away in Fortune Centre is Diner’s Shack, a cosy eatery whose signature dish might surprise you. Its name and decor suggest an American-style diner, but in reality, the eatery is popular for its old-school Teochew fish soup—though not without some quirks.

As you can tell from the image above, the batang slices used in the Slice Mackerel Fish Soup ($5.50) are absolutely massive, especially for the price. In a time where shrinkflation is widespread, this eatery gives you pieces of fish that are both large and thickly cut.

And it’s not just the fish—the soup is said to be quite flavourful, and is packed with cabbage, tomatoes and more. Alternatives include the Fish Head Soup ($5.80) and even the Curry Fish with Rice ($7.70), all of which get rave reviews from patrons.

If you’d like something other than fish, Diner’s Shack has plenty of options, too. There’s the Signature Curry Chicken with Rice ($7.20), and even Western fare such as Aromatic Sauce Chicken Chop Spaghetti ($7.60). Vegetarian dishes are available as well, including the Bitter Gourd Tofu Soup with Rice ($4.50) and Saute Mixed Capsicum and Mushroom Spaghetti ($7.20).

This eatery often draws long queues, so you’re advised to drop by early to avoid the wait!
