Cafe hoppers, there’s a new spot to check out in Bugis. Introducing Elephant Grounds, a popular Hong Kong coffee chain that’s made Guoco Midtown its first Singapore outpost. Having started in 2013 as a neighbourhood coffee counter, the brand has since become one of HK’s sought-after cafes, which is why there’s been a bit of a buzz surrounding its opening on our shores.
You’ll find Elephant Grounds in the space Mashi no Mashi occupied until its move to Chinatown last year. Its sleek, modern design sees plenty of natural light and greenery from the outside, and there’s a pet-friendly outdoor dining space as well. One could reasonably kick back and relax in such a space.
Be sure to grab yourself a cup of their famous coffee while you’re there. These are brewed with beans from an award-winning farm in East Java, and are locally roasted for maximum freshness. All the classics are here: the Espresso ($4.50+), Long Black ($5+), and OG Blend Pour Over ($8+) are solid picks, while the Latte ($6.50+) or Cappuccino ($6.50+) works if you prefer your coffee with milk. There are also a host of non-coffee drinks, including the Matcha Latte ($7.50+) and Oolong Osmantus Brew ($7+).
The cafe has a wide range of bakes and brunch items for you to choose from. These include The Breakfast Sandwich ($20+), where a sizeable, flaky croissant is packed with avocado, bacon, scrambled eggs and more, as well as the spicy and flavourful Mr. Shakshuka ($20+). If you’re just looking for some fresh pastries, there are options such as Almond Croissant ($6+) and Blueberry Danish ($6+) as well.
Those visiting for lunch or dinner can opt for mains such as the Rigatoni Bolognese ($22+), Steak Gyudon ($24+), and EG Burger ($22+) featuring a Wagyu patty. End your meal with sweet treats such as Doughnuts ($5+) or Churros ($8+), or go the healthy way with a Buddha Bowl ($18+) or Yuzu Caesar Salad ($16+).
