Fernvale Hawker Centre is a newly-opened hawker centre located on the third floor of Fernvale Community Centre.
Boasting a brightly lit and spacious dining area, this hawker centre officially opened its doors on 25 July 2022 and is a three-minute walk from Fernvale LRT Station. With a total of 28 food stalls, this list will introduce you to some of the food we think is worth trying.
The original Whitley Road Big Prawn Noodle at Old Airport Road Food Centre is one of the most acclaimed prawn mee stalls in Singapore. You’ll get a similar range of dishes at this Fernvale Hawker Centre outlet.
Go for the Prawn Pork Rib Noodles ($6) which features a highly savoury broth that is rich in seafood flavour, bouncy egg noodles, tender pork ribs, sweet prawns, and beansprouts. If you’re not a fan of soup-based noodles, you can also opt for the dry version that sets you back at the same price.

Whitley Road Big Prawn Noodles is not a halal-certified eatery.
Amoy Street Lor Mee seemed like one of the more popular stalls in Fernvale Hawker Centre, as it had already drawn a snaking queue when we arrived at 11am.
A hearty bowl of the bestselling Lor Mee ($3) sees yellow mee blanketed in a thick, eggy, and peppery sauce. It is joined by chunks of crispy fried fish and braised pork belly. For an extra kick, pair the noodles with the garlicky green chilli condiment provided at the stall.

When in doubt about what to eat, the easiest pick—in my opinion, at least—is chicken rice.
Tong Fong Fatt Hainanese Boneless Chicken Rice is where you’ll find delicious chicken rice at affordable prices starting from $3. This hawker stall uses only fresh kampung chicken, which is said to be leaner and sweeter than regular chicken.
The steamed Chicken Rice ($4.50) was well-executed, as it boasted fragrant rice, tender and succulent chicken glistening in sesame oil, and garlic chilli sauce that packed a punch. For the perfect mouthful, pair the rice and chicken with some ginger sauce too.

Tong Fong Fatt Hainanese Boneless CHicken Rice is not a halal-certified eatery.
Fernvale Hawker Centre also carries a few Muslim-friendly options, and Saudagar Penyek is one of them.
Their Nasi Ayam Penyek ($6) comes with a large smashed fried chicken that sports a crispy, well-seasoned batter, and fragrant rice influenced with ginger and lemongrass. We highly recommend this dish if you are looking for something that’s hearty and filling at the hawker centre.

Saudagar Penyet is a Muslim-owned eatery.
Umi’s Spices is another Muslim-owned stall at this hawker centre. They serve a range of nasi padang as well as other Indonesian food such as Mee Bakso ($5.50) and Nasi Uduk ($7). Some of the best nasi padang dishes you can get at this stall include bergedil, ayam lemak cili padi, and sayur—a combination of all three would set you back about $7.50.

Umi’s Spices is a Muslim-owned eatery.
Xin Xin Claypot Rice offers excellent claypot rice from $7.50. The dish has a good balance of sweet, umami, and smoky notes, and comes with generous chunks of chicken, lup cheong, and salted fish. Those who enjoy crispy rice will also appreciate the burnt rice bits at the bottom of the claypot.

Fins and Feathers is the only Western food stall at Fernvale Hawker Centre. The Signature Beef Stew ($8) comes highly recommended—the stew closely resembles a bolognese sauce, and features thick chunks of tender beef, potatoes, and carrots. If you’re not a fan of beef, you can also try the Fish & Chips ($8) or the Herb Rice & Boneless Chicken Thigh ($8).

A dish commonly found at any hawker centre is bak chor mee. Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee’s Dry Bak Chor Mee ($3.50) is better than most.
What makes Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee stand out is its soup, as it is incredibly rich with a spicy and garlicky punch. Meanwhile, the noodles are tossed in a flavourful house-made chilli paste that’s made with sambal and pork lard.

Seng Hiang Bak Chor Mee is not a halal-certified eatery.
For some vegetarian fare, Greentea Rice is worth a shot. While some might not enjoy the bitter and herbaceous taste of lei cha, AKA thunder tea rice, Greentea Rice’s version is much milder and more savoury.
We recommend you try the Signature Thunder Tea Rice ($5.90/$6.90) for starters, which consists of brown rice, vegetables, tofu chunks, peanuts, and anchovies. The thunder tea soup is said to be made of a blend of green tea leaves, mint, mugwort, coriander, basil, and spices. You also have the option to choose white rice or brown rice vermicelli as the base of your meal.

Greentea Rice is not a halal-certified eatery.
Lastly, we couldn’t leave Fernvale Hawker Centre without trying Munchi Pancakes, a stall serving traditional min jiang kueh in unique flavours such as biscoff, matcha, and Thai milk tea. These pancakes are not only Instagrammable, but also incredibly soft, fluffy, and delicious.
For the Traditional Pancakes and Munchi Pancakes, you can choose between three different pancake skin flavours: original, charcoal, and green tea.
If there’s one flavour you should try, it is the Oreo Cheese Munchi Pancake ($1.80). We thoroughly enjoyed how it wasn’t too sweet and heavy, so you won’t feel jelak too fast.

With plenty of food options, Fernvale Hawker Centre is definitely worth a visit, especially if you happen to be around the area.
