The popular brand has garnered a cult following and is well-loved by superstars, including singer Dua Lipa. Their Instagram account boasts close to 300k followers at the point of writing.

Founded in 2002, Gelato Messina has been around for over 20 years. From their honey and nut paste to chocolates and macadamia crunch, the family brand is known for their handcrafted desserts made from scratch with top-tier ingredients, some of which are sourced straight from the brand’s dairy farm.

Look forward to 40 flavours at any time at the Chinatown outlet, 35 of which are permanent classic flavours, and five weekly specials that rotate from Tuesday to Saturday, depending on the availability of ingredients.

A scoop here costs $7.50, while two scoops cost $10 and three cost $12—yes, all gelato flavours are sold at a fixed price. Prices are slightly steep, but if you get three scoops to share with a friend, that works out to just $4 a scoop!

Tastings are encouraged by the staff so that you can find your favourite out of the many flavours available.

What’s also really special is that of the 35 flavours, five are Singapore exclusives. We tried Kaya Toast and Tau Huay, which were equally delicious in their own right.

The former comes with actual kaya jam and bits of toast, giving the velvety smooth gelato an interesting textured bite. Their clean-tasting Tau Huay is great if you prefer something less milky and light on the palate.

Moving on to their bestsellers, we tried Pistachio Praline and Dulce De Leche in a cone, boasting a stunning shade of green against brown.

The Pistachio Praline was one of the creamiest I’ve ever had in Singapore, striking a balance between milkiness and nuttiness with no grainy skin bits.

Caramel fans will love Dulce De Leche, a milk-based caramel that’s not as viscous and chewy in texture. It’s surprisingly not cloying, with a mild burnt caramel aftertaste that we really enjoyed.

Our favourite lineup was the sorbets that make up eight flavours. We recommend getting the Mango and Raspberry together for a sweet-tangy combination; the mango had a zesty aftertaste that made this one of the best sorbets we’ve had in a while.

Gelato aside, there are also Milkshake ($10) and Thickshake ($12) to beat the heat on the go.

For easy access, Gelato Messina is a quick three-minute walk from Telok Ayer MRT Station and a seven-minute walk from Chinatown MRT Station.
