GO K Jjajang: Legit Jjajangmyeon Specialty Restaurant In Telok Ayer

GO K Jjajang is a jjajangmyeon specialty restaurant in Telok Ayer

Fairly new to the Telok Ayer neighbourhood is GO K Jjajang, a sister restaurant to popular K-BBQ spot GO K BBQ, whose main Amoy Street outlet is located just a couple doors down. Here at GO K Jjajang, they specialise in one dish, as their name suggests: jjajangmyeon—Korean-Chinese black bean sauce noodles.

There’s a glass window at the back of the restaurant where you’ll be able to see chef Choi Chilsung, whose impressive 20-over-year culinary resume includes a stint at Lotte Hotel in Korea, in action. Start with Go K Jjajang ($14++), their signature dish that’s as much starchy gravy as it is ingredients, fragrant with a touch of wok hei.

Come at lunch, and you’ll be able to enjoy it as part of their lunch set (from $50++), alongside one of two jjamppong, AKA spicy noodle soup. Choose between Haemul Jjamppong ($18++) and Chadol Jjamppong ($18++), for seafood and beef brisket options respectively; otherwise, there’s spicy jjajangmyeon ($15++), or GO K Bokkeumbap ($14++), which sees the jjajang sauce served with fried rice.

The lunch set allows you to choose a main too, such as GO K Tangsuyuk, priced at $28++ for a bigger portion a la carte.

For the uninitiated, this is Korean-style sweet and sour pork, which here comes with the sticky sauce served on the side. Dip your deep-fried pork in, or pour it over as you wish.

One of GO K Jjajang’s most popular side dishes is Menbocha ($18++)—deep-fried shrimp toast that stars light, crisp bread sandwiching a thick layer of well-seasoned minced prawn.

If you’re a JJM fan, head to one of the spots on this jjajangmyeon list to get your fix. Otherwise, read our guide to the best Korean fried chicken spots in Singapore!
