Whenever I need me-time, I love to frequent Bras Basah Complex and browse through second-hand books while enjoying a cup of coffee. Recently, it came to my attention that there’s a potential lunch spot to check out after my book shopping: HARU-HARU, a new Japanese stall whipping up XL mentaiko pork katsu curry and more under $15.
There are more than 10 items on the menu, ranging from the most affordable Chicken Katsu Don ($8.90) to the crowd-favourite Pork Katsu Don ($9.90). The XL serving of pork katsu is enough to impress, but couple this with a generous amount of mentaiko mayo sauce drizzled on top, and you’ll get a solid lunch or dinner.
If you don’t mind spending more, get their Premium Pork Katsu Curry ($14.90) to try since you’re already there. A plate of Japanese curry paired with any meat katsu easily exceeds $20 at most Japanese restaurants in Singapore, but here, you can indulge in a hearty meal for less than $15.
Pork and chicken aside, there are several other ingredients to choose from: ebi fry, smoked sausage, salmon, and chicken karaage. Another value-for-money option is the Unagi Don ($13.90), which features sweet-savoury unagi fillets atop a warm bed of rice. FYI, you can request the mentaiko mayo sauce to be served on the side to dip instead.Â
For easy access, the new stall is within spitting distance of Bras Basah MRT Station.Â
