Get Cantonese Steamed Fish From Just $6 At This Circuit Road Hawker Centre Stall

Popular stall Hee Hee Hee Steamed Fish and Fish Soup in Circuit Road

Steamed fish stalls are coming into the spotlight of late, thanks to names such as Nian Nian You Yu, and more recently, Hee Hee Hee Steamed Fish and Fish Soup. The latter is a stall in Circuit Road Hawker Centre that opened early in 2022. Run by two fishmongers, they sell a wide variety of Cantonese-style fish, seafood, and fish soup dishes, all at wallet-friendly prices. They also recently opened a second location in the Toa Payoh Lorong 4 Hawker Centre.

Diners can choose from multiple different types of fresh fish to enjoy steamed in a Cantonese-style sauce, made with lashings of soya sauce, sesame oil, garlic, ginger, coriander, and Shaoxing wine. Options start from $6 for a whole Grouper, and go up to $10 for a whole Golden Pomfret.

They also often have White Snapper (from $6), Batang ($8), and Seabass ($9) available. However, because the stall relies heavily on the catch available at the Jurong Fishery Port each day, items and prices on the menu are not fixed. From time to time, the eatery also has seasonal specials.

Aside from fish, there are a few seafood items available, from steamed Tiger Prawn to Crayfish, and Lala, priced from $6 as well. Bamboo clams are occasionally sold too.

Complete your meal with a bowl of steamed white rice, and you’re good to go.

Overall, the stall manages to keep its prices competitive because its owners run a fishmonger business too, and get their wares at wholesale prices. While affordable, the trade-off is that diners do have to wait up to an hour or more for their orders during peak dinner times, as the fish are steamed to order.
