Hjh Maimunah Has Opened A Stall At City Square Mall’s Food Republic

Nasi Padang at Hjh Maimunah

Back on this year’s Michelin Bib Gourmand list, Hjh Maimunah has been pushing out stellar nasi padang for over 20 years. Starting out as a quaint eatery at a now-defunct cafe along Beach Road in 1992, the restaurant expanded with two outlets at Joo Chiat and Arab Street. Now, the popular Malay eatery has now hit the malls, with a spanking new outlet at City Square Mall. The stall is located in Food Republic on the top floor of the mall.

Compared to the other two branches that are full-blown restaurants, this new member is Hjh Maimunah’s first food court stall, hence the ‘Mini’ in the name.

This Food Republic stall will continue to serve their tasty Kampung-style food, with their signature Nasi Padang coming to the forefront. Some popular additions are the Beef Rendang, Sambal Eggplant, and Paru Goreng (Beef lung). My personal favourite is their Siput Sedut which is essentially snails served in a lemak sauce. It is a joy to slurp up!

Most of the dishes stay true to the owner’s mother traditional recipes, and quality is key. Despite having multiple restaurants to run, the family behind Hjh Maimunah still follow the old-school methods of preparing each dish, even if they are time-consuming.

If you’re wondering whether this stall will be as good as the other branches, fret not as all the dishes are prepared in a central kitchen, ensuring consistency at all three outlets.

The family-run store is slowly being passed down to the owner’s children, who are eager to grow the company with fresh ideas. We guess this means more stalls opening at Food Republic in the years to come!

If you’re craving for nasi padang, check out Aroma Kampung, a nasi padang buffet that offers over 40 dishes.
