National Day is quickly approaching, and Ichiban Sushi has released a series of dishes to celebrate Singapore’s 55th birthday. Incorporating both local and Japanese flavours, this exciting range of sushi looks set to excite any sushi lover.

We started the week with Old Chang Kee’s limited-edition chilli crab puffs. Now, Ichiban Sushi is here with their take on the well-loved local dish with their Chilli Crab Maki ($6++).

Singaporeans’ love for chilli crab never seems to wane, and as a crab lover, I’m all for this craze.

Expect this maki to give a nice crunch from its soft shell crab tempura and fried crab stick strips. Just like its original counterpart, these bites are also packed with heat from chilli crab sauce and sliced chilli padi.

Nasi lemak is a go-to meal for many of us locals. Acknowledging this, Ichiban Sushi has also given this familiar dish a Japanese twist with their Nasi Lemak Sushi ($3.20++).

Visually resembling nasi lemak, this sushi also comprises the same essential ingredients — peanut, ikan bilis, egg, and sambal chilli. If you appreciate sweet and spicy sambal chilli, this sushi is the choice for you.

Of course, we can’t discuss local favourites without mentioning chicken rice. Fans of this local delight can look out for the Chicken Rice Maki ($3.20++), which is basically chicken rice condensed into a single bite. You can look forward to the familiar ginger and chilli paste, chicken and rice, that’s then topped off with crunchy cucumber.

If you’re into local snacks such as popiah, Ichiban Sushi also has the Popiah Roll With Aburi Salmon ($4.20++). Chwee kueh lovers can also give the Chye Poh Hikiniku Maki ($3.20++) a try, which features preserved salted radish.

These new pick-me-ups will only be available until 23 August 2020. They are available for both dine-in and takeaway orders, so you can enjoy these treats at home as well.
