Ikigai Izakaya Has XXL Sushi Platters And $1 Sashimi In Clarke Quay

Ikigai Izakaya has XXL sushi and more at Clarke Quay

Those who frequent social media may have seen the viral clips featuring unusually large sushi—the kind that requires you two or three bites to elegantly consume. If you’d like to try the dish in question, you can now do so at Ikigai Izakaya, a restaurant in The Riverwalk that recently launched their buzz-worthy XXL Sushi Platter ($48++).

This platter features seven oversized sushi, with each piece crafted to about 10 centimetres in length. These include classics such as salmon, tuna, and hamachi nigiri.

We were impressed by the fish-to-rice ratio of the sushi here. That, plus the high-quality seafood used in each piece, meant that this platter lived up to its impressive appearance. We particularly enjoyed the scallop nigiri, which featured a silky, sweet, and sizeable scallop slice zhnged up with aromatic black truffle sauce.

If that isn’t enough fish for you, be sure to order the Salmon Sashimi, which, for a limited time only, will set you back a mere $1++. This is especially bang for your buck when considering that the salmon here is fresh, thickly cut, and melt-in-your-mouth. To be eligible for this deal, all you need to do is spend a minimum of $30—this shouldn’t be hard to achieve, especially if you’re dining with at least one other person.

Customers who prefer a spicier kick in their dishes can opt for the Extra Spicy Tuna Maki Roll ($22++). Featuring gorgeously wrapped maki topped with fresh slices of tuna, spicy mayonnaise, and bonito flakes, this dish is as satisfying to eat as it is fiery on the palate.

For something heartier, you can opt for the restaurant’s Japanese sandwiches. Check out the classic Katsu Sando, which will set you back $9.90++ (U.P. $12.90++)—this dish features a crispy on the outside, soft on the inside pork cutlet that melds well with slightly toasted shokupan bread, vegetables, and a house-made sauce with prominent sesame notes.

There’s also the Unagi Sando, which is priced at $15.90++ (U.P. $22.90++). Compared to the katsu sando, the sweet-savoury flavour and delicate texture of the unagi make this arguably the more unique and compelling sandwich to have.
