While Japanese restaurants are aplenty in Singapore, enjoying dishes such as chirashi don and sashimi often means shelling out a pretty penny. If you’re looking for Japanese food that won’t break the bank, head over to Iro Iro Japanese Restaurant, a family-run eatery located at New Tech Park. This newly opened mall is just a five-minute walk from Lorong Chuan MRT Station.

Iro Iro is managed by Chef Joe, the former head chef at Goodwood Park Hotel’s teppanyaki restaurant, Shima. With a culinary maestro at the helm, diners can expect nothing less than an exceptional gastronomic journey, especially when it comes to Iro Iro’s omakase experience.

Priced from $80+ per person with a minimum of two diners, the omakase menu features a variety of sushi, sashimi, cooked dishes, and Japanese starters.

If you’re here for a simple lunch, we recommend ordering the Yakitori Don ($14.60+), featuring four chicken skewers, melted cheese, and shredded egg for a savoury blend of flavours. Another standout dish, the Umami Soy Chirashi ($15.80+), features a generous bowl of assorted raw seafood cubes marinated in soya sauce.

Fans of mentaiko can try the Aburi Sashimi ($18.80+) too. It’s topped with blow-torched sashimi that’s slathered with mentai mayo, then crowned with cod roe and thick tamago slices.

If you’re looking for something to share, order the Soft Shell Crab Roll ($12.90+) or Dragon Boat Maki ($16.90+). The latter is packed with crispy tempura prawn, finished off with aburi sauce and topped with ebiko fish eggs.

Save some tummy space for their delectable sides too, such as Tako Wasabi ($6+)—raw octopus marinated in Japanese horseradish, as well as Hokkaido Kaki Fry ($14.50+), which comprises five pieces of panko-coated Japanese fried oysters.

Iro Iro also offers a selection of Japanese beers priced from $10+, including Sapporo Beer and Coedor Beer. Otherwise, end your meal with a scoop of ice cream at $5.50+, with flavours such as Yuzu, Sesame, and Green Tea.

For more affordable sushi, check out Sushi-Go at Marina Square for cheesy unagi rolls and okonomiyaki omelette. Otherwise, read our Tsuzuku review for legit Japanese food at Berseh Food Centre.
