With food prices going up as we speak, stumbling upon a cheap dim sum place is akin to finding a gem. One of such is Joo Huat Pau, a humble hawker stall in Circuit Road Food Centre that has been dishing out old-school pau, siew mai and more at affordable prices for many years.

Regulars go for their Siew Mai, priced at just $0.60 a pop—a rarity in this day and age. Each morsel has that rustic, uneven shape, which adds to its charm, and a flavourful pork filling. The skin is said to be on the thicker side, but for this price point, it’s hard to complain.

The pau items are well-priced too, with the Tau Sar Pau and Coconut Pau at $0.60 each, and the Char Siew Pau at $0.80. If you’re still hungry, fill up with the Big Pau ($1.50) or Fan Choy ($1.60).
