Just when we thought we were #blessed when Riz Labo Kitchen opened in town, Kagurazaka Saryo decides to set up shop in Singapore at VivoCity! Known to attract long queues at all of its nine branches in Japan, this renowned Japanese matcha cafe is set to be a treat for those who love matcha latte, green tea ice-cream and more!

Using ceremonial-grade Uji matcha, the desserts here are of high quality and lean more towards a bittersweet flavour than a cloying profile. A great dish to share with friends is their Matcha Fondue with Assorted Sides ($14.90++). Here, Uji matcha is mixed together with white chocolate, making it an even more decadent treat. It comes with a plate of strawberries, banana, chewy mochi, waffle biscuits, as well as a scoop of vanilla or matcha ice-cream.

Another popular dessert of theirs is the Matcha Frozen S’more ($9.90++), where marshmallows are placed over a tray of vanilla or matcha ice-cream, before being torched for caramelised gooey goodness. We are just drooling looking at the photos!

Desserts aren’t the only thing on the menu. Find comfort in their selection of cha-nabe – a soupy pot comprising rice or udon – such as their Tantan Meat Kimuchi Tonkotsu Cha-nabe ($10.90++) or Salmon Miso Cha-nabe ($11.90++). The portions are rather huge too, so you can expect to leave feeling well satisfied.

Truly savour the taste of the premium Uji matcha when you order their O Matcha ($8.90++). Serving premium matcha powder with a hot pot of water, you are given a bamboo whisk to vigorously whisk the tea in a zig-zag motion until it turns frothy – just like how the Japanese do in a traditional tea ceremony. Warabimochi is also served on the side for you to enjoy.
