If you’ve never heard of Ken’s Cafe Tokyo, you will soon be hearing plenty of news about it in the month’s to come. Hailing from Shinjuku, Tokyo, this Japanese cafe is best known for their gâteau au chocolat, which is essentially a french-style chocolate cake. Their cake is lauded by many to be the best chocolate cake in Japan, and there’s a three-month wait to get your hands on a slab!

Thankfully, you don’t need to fly down to Japan for a slice of this cake, as Watanabe Coffee at Istean Scotts Shaw House will be pushing out slices of this highly-raved about cake.

Available for both dine-in and takeaway at $8++ per slice and $45+ for an entire cake, the cake is pretty affordable but the time spent queueing will be a painful affair. Selling a limited quantity of 20 Gateau Chocolat Specialities cakes each day, you might not even get your hands on it after standing in line.

If you’re wondering what makes this cake so special, just look at the photos. The 280g gluten-free cake screams decadence, with a gooey centre. It’s a premium piece of chocolatey goodness, and features a blend of Domoro grand cru dark chocolate, Japanese unsalted butter and special Mukashi no Aji eggs.

For those dining in, there are three ways to savour Ken’s Cafe Tokyo’s chocolate cake. You can either have it as-is at room temperature as a Terrine Chocolat, or served chilled if you prefer a firmer ganache. For fans of molten chocolate lava cake, you can get the same result by popping a slice in the microwave for a few seconds.

All Gateau Chocolat Specialities sold at Watanabe Coffee will be whipped up by their very own chef, who studied under founder and chef, Kenji Ujiie.
