If there’s one thing I can’t get enough of, it’s handmade kueh. It’s getting harder to find such old-school treats these days, so when I heard about Kia Xiang Du Du Nyonya Kueh, I was beyond stoked. Located in Beo Crescent Market, this humble hawker stall has been around for over 40 years. Currently, it’s manned by second-generation owners.

While the stall offers a plethora of kueh, biscuits, and traditional snacks, they’re probably most known for their Tutu Kueh. These circular kueh are handmade fresh-to-order, and are available in two sizes: Small ($2 for four) or Big ($0.80 each).

Choose from two flavours, Peanut and Coconut. The former comes with a chunky peanut paste, while the latter is generously filled with juicy coconut shreds that burst with sweetness.

Your choice of filling is packed within finely milled rice flour, and then steamed till piping hot. A small piece of pandan leaf is placed under each kueh so it’s easy to pick up. The pandan also infuses a light aroma to the steamed kueh.

The hawker stall is located in Beo Crescent Market, which is a four-minute walk from Tiong Bahru MRT Station. They open from 6:30am, so make sure you head down early for your tutu kueh fix!

For more cheap kueh in Singapore, check out Molly’s in Hougang, which sells ondeh ondeh, rainbow lapis and more. Otherwise, head to Borobudur Snacks Shop for old-school kueh ambon in Bedok.
