Kim Soo: Secret Bali Cafe In A Furniture Store With Cheesy Toasts And Caramel Cheesecake

Kim Soo is a cafe and furniture shop in Seminyak Bali

From the outside, Kim Soo looks like a regular cafe in Seminyak. But once you enter its premises, you’ll find yourself in a French-inspired boutique shop, complete with handmade textiles, wooden furniture, and Indonesian ethnic pieces.

The shop has no shortage of OOTD-worthy spots—think monochrome backdrops, marbled tables, and even a turquoise splash pool at the back of the retail space. If you’d like to pick something up for your home, there are even ceramic mugs, kitchenware, cushions, and rugs that are locally designed.

Once you’re done exploring the space, head out to the stylish adjoining cafe for brunch and coffee. Expect typical brunch fare with the likes of french toast and quiche, along with a selection of house-made cakes.

On our visit, we tried the Triple Cheese Toastie (IDR75K++/~S$6.81++), comprising melted cheddar, mozzarella, and Swiss cheese sandwiched between two thick pieces of toasted sourdough. This dish also comes with a side of truffle cream sauce for dipping, and crispy baby potatoes.

This definitely isn’t your average cheese toast, as the portion is huge! My colleague and I couldn’t finish it despite being super hungry. The warm, gooey, melted cheese filling oozed with every bite, while the sourdough was crispy and buttery, making it a truly addictive treat.

We also ordered the Baja Fish Tacos (IDR85K++/~S$7.72++): tempura barramundi nestled within grilled flour tortillas and served with chipotle mayonnaise, guacamole, and pickled jalapeno salsa.

Each bite of this Mexican-inspired dish burst with flavour, but a squeeze of lime made the dish light and refreshing enough for us to enjoy on a hot sunny day. My colleague enjoyed the piquant flavour of the jalapeno salsa, while I much preferred having the tacos with a dip of creamy guacamole.

We ended the meal with one of Kim Soo’s house-made cakes, the Dulce de Leche Cheesecake (IDR40K++/~S$3.63++). It had a hint of toffee and a mellow, butterscotch-like flavour, and was sweet but not cloying. Other indulgent treats include their Carrot Cake (IDR45K++/~S$4.05++) and Lamington (IDR40K++/~S$3.63++), an Australian sponge cake.

We paired our dessert with a glass of Iced Matcha (IDR45K++/~S$4.05++), which was earthy and sweet. Espresso-based coffee is served here too, or you can go for their mixed juices from IDR45K++ (~S$4.05++), such as the refreshing Pineapple Crush, or the healthy Antioxidant: mango, pear, and carrot.
