The term “hidden gem” gets thrown around a lot these days, but Kizuna is truly worthy of the title. This izakaya is located under a HDB block in Potong Pasir, serving Japanese skewers and light bites with a curated cocktail menu.

Kizuna is said to be Singapore’s first neighbourhood cocktail bar and izakaya. Online reviews describe the space as cosy and homey, with excellent service and food to match.

Regulars love their skewers, which come in eight flavours. Highlights include Torimomo (Chicken Thigh) ($4) and Hiza Nankotsu (Chicken Knee Cartilage) ($4), which are simply salted and grilled. Those who enjoy offal can order the Hatsu (Chicken Heart) ($4) and Sunagimo (Chicken Gizzard) ($4), grilled and glazed with a sweet tare sauce.

Their handroll and don selection is equally impressive, with a wide range of toppings to choose from. The Hotate Handroll ($8) is a classic, comprising scallops with yuzu zest, yuzu kosho, shio kombu, dried nori, and tobiko, atop seasoned red rice and wrapped in seaweed.

Other delicious handroll flavours include Aburi Engawa ($8), featuring seared flounder fin with yuzu salt, and Negitoro ($7): chopped tuna belly with furikake, spring onion, and cucumber.

If you prefer negitoro in don form, order the Mini Negitoro Don ($11), comprising minced tuna belly and green onions served over a bed of seasoned rice, topped with an egg yolk.

Don’t miss out on Kizuna’s innovative cocktail list; each week, their bartender creates five classic cocktails—highball, sour, old-fashioned, martini, and digestif styles—and a milk punch. Past iterations include Lynchburg Lemonade ($25), a refreshing mix of bourbon, orange liqueur, lemon, and soda, and Matcha Hazelnut Milk Punch ($26), a silky-smooth beverage combining rum, matcha, sherry, hazelnut, and lime.
