Kok Kee Wonton Noodle is one of those grand old dames of local hawker cuisine, famed for their Singapore-style wonton mee with its slightly thicker-than-average yellow mee kia. Now, only at their Foch Road outlet, they’ve launched a new series of hor fun dishes!
If you’ve never tried Kok Kee’s wonton noodles, their dry Wonton Noodle ($5) is where you should begin. The recipe for their uber addictive secret sauce has remained the same since 1985, which is when the founders, a pair of sisters, started selling their dumpling noodles at Lavender Food Square.
Fans of Kok Kee absolutely go nuts for their secret sauce, which is now tossed with silky hor fun! Similarly priced, a plate of dry Wonton Hor Fun ($5) promises to be even more moreish than with their original QQ mee kia—we imagine this would be especially so after the silky rice noodles absorb some of that gravy.
The handmade wonton remain the same, with their miniature-sized, slightly peppery finish. Each portion is also accompanied by the typical, Singapore-style, red-dyed char siew—the bugbear on this plate for many a Kok Kee fan.
Alternatively, order yourself some dry Dumpling Hor Fun ($5), which comes with Kok Kee’s handmade shui jiao.
These hor fun dishes also come in soup options, otherwise if you’re not a fan of any of their dumplings and char siew, consider getting their Vegetable Hor Fun ($5) instead. Here, you can expect to have no distractions to your enjoyment of the hor fun and secret gravy, simply finished with green vegetables.
In case you missed it, Kok Kee now has eight outlets islandwide, including their Bedok branch, but these hor fun dishes are only available at Foch Road. For more wonton mee, check out our guide to wonton noodles in Singapore!
