Kyuukei Coffee Is A New Hole-In-The-Wall Cafe In Alexandra With Japan Vibes

Kyuukei Coffee is a Japanese-inspired cafe under a HDB

In recent months, we’ve seen more under-HDB cafes—cue Rookie’s Coffee Shop in Queensway, and Rise cafe in Potong Pasir. There’s a new addition to the list: Kyuukei Coffee, a hole-in-the-wall coffee spot hidden in Alexandra. Kyuukei translates to “rest” or “break”, which this Japanese-inspired cafe hopes to offer to their patrons.

Kyuukei Coffee is nestled on the ground floor of Block 121 Bukit Merah Lane 1, near Alexandra Village Food Centre. Fun fact, the cafe first started out as a coffee cart in April 2023!

The cafe is adorned with wooden and rattan accents, along with muted earthy tones, both indoors and outdoors. We appreciate how the cosy and minimalist space aligns with their overall concept of having a break; it’s truly the ideal spot to take a breather amidst our fast-paced lifestyle.

Starting with their bakes, there’s a good range of sweet and savoury house-baked treats for you to choose from. So far, their menu has seen Cruffin ($6.50), Focaccia ($4), Kouign-amann ($5) and more. Take note that the selection changes from time to time!

Their Long Black ($4.50) is a perfect pairing with their bakes. Else, treat yourself to their Flat White ($5) or Latte ($5.50). If you prefer iced coffee, simply pay an additional $0.50! For a plant-based milk alternative, they offer Oat Milk ($1) as well. Besides coffee, they serve tea in either a glass ($3) or a pot ($6).

There’s a bar table inside that seats about two people, so we recommend taking it outdoors to enjoy the surrounding greenery. The seating area is also sheltered, which means you don’t have to worry about melting under the scorching sun.

For more food places to check out around the area, read our Hundred Grains review, where we spent more than $20 on cai png. Otherwise, read our Alexandra Central Mall food guide for K-BBQ, deep-fried crab bao and more.

Address: 121 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-06, Singapore 150121
