Get $30 High Tea Set For Two At This Under-The-Radar JB Cafe, Located 10 Mins From Customs

M Patisserie for affordable high tea in JB

Afternoon tea isn’t exactly cheap, but there are affordable options in Singapore as well as across the border if you look close enough. One of such is M Patisserie, hidden within a bridal studio just 10 minutes away from the JB customs. This under-the-radar cafe in Johor Bahru has been gaining traction for their value-for-money high tea sets.

We found the cafe’s location rather elusive, so here’s a tip if you’re driving or heading there via Grab: set your destination to H Gallery. From there, follow the directions leading to M Patisserie.

The space is clean and cosy, with cushioned armchairs and couches to make you feel like you’re dining at a friend’s stylish abode. Floral prints and chic ornaments adorn the homely space, setting the stage for a cosy tête-à-tête over tea and light bites.

The cheapest high tea option is a two-tiered set for a party of two, which goes at RM88+ (~S$28.30+). This works out to below S$15+ per person—a price that’s almost unheard of in Singapore.

You get a good mix of savoury and sweet bites, finger sandwiches, scones, and a pot of TWG tea of your choice. We enjoyed nibbling on the mini salmon quiche and egg mayo truffle choux to start.

You also get a separate plate of tamago sandwiches for sharing. This tasted oddly sugary, so we think it’ll cater to those with a sweet tooth.

There’s also a pretty-looking crispy tiramisu that revealed gorgeous layers of cream and coffee-soaked biscuits, wrapped in a crispy chocolate shell.

Strawberry fiends will be pleased with the dainty Korea strawberry tart, a bite-sized treat that went well with a sip of our earl grey tea.

If you’re visiting with more friends, go for the three-tier set (RM138+/~S$44.30+) instead, which feeds up to a party of four. Do note that the afternoon tea sets are only available for advanced booking via M Patisserie’s Facebook page.
