Mad Roaster Cafe Opens In Bukit Merah, Has Honey Butter Latte And Grilled Cheese

Mad Roaster Depot Road

When Mad Roaster opened its flagship at Amoy Street Food Centre last year, we were wowed by their cafe-style-coffee-in-a-kopitiam concept, along with their bakes and social cause. While the Amoy Street stall is currently closed due to renovation at the food centre, the Mad Roaster brand has been busy, opening new outlets in Joo Chiat, and now along Depot Road in Bukit Merah.

Mad Roaster Depot Road is a standalone cafe with minimal decor, and cosy indoor seating where you can enjoy your coffee order with a warm slice of their housemade babka.

Coffee here starts at $2.80 for an espresso, made from a signature house blend of arabica beans. You ought to try their signature drinks when there, though, as these are what make Mad Roaster stand out.

There’s the Honey Butter Latte ($4), which nods to Korean honey butter chips thanks to a housemade syrup, as well as the Dirty Matcha ($4.50), where first flush tencha matcha from Japan gets a twist with a shot of espresso. Add $0.50 to have your drink with ice. The Cereal Cold Brew ($5.50) is another delicious caffeine dose, with cereal milk in place of your regular cow’s milk.

As the cafe is all about elevating the kopi and toast combo, order a slice of their housemade babka to go along with your coffee. For those who don’t know, babka is a glazed sweet bread, and at Mad Roaster, slices are available in Chocolate, Cinnamon, or Salted Caramel flavours at $2 apiece. Each comes with housemade custard or sauce, and a dose of babka crumbles. Whole loaves can also be purchased at $18 each.

They’ve also launched savoury brioche toasts at this outlet, including their Brioche Grilled Cheese ($7) if you don’t have a sweet tooth.

The cafe is all about coffee with a cause too, as part of the proceeds from every cup sold lend a hand to helping the refugees that Mad Roaster’s founder Madeline, a lawyer, works with.

Pay them a visit if you’re looking for a caffeine fix this weekend. For more food options in the area, check out our Bukit Merah cafe guide. There’s also our Bukit Merah View hawker centre food guide!
