The end of an era is coming. Fans of Madeleine’s Original Portuguese Egg Tart have around a month left to get their egg tart fix from the popular Tanjong Katong bakery, before its shutters officially close for the final time.

The brand recently posted a TikTok video to announce the sad news of the closure, which will take place on 16 August 2024.

The shop has been around since 1998, making them 26 years old this year. According to a CNA exclusive, the Tanjong Katong bakery space is rented from a landlord, who decided to sell the unit. As a result, the bakery owners decided to stop all operations. Their last day of business will be 15 August.

If it’s your first time here, try their Original Portuguese Egg Tart at $2.50 each or $15 for a box of six. These egg tarts are said to be super flaky on the outside, with a generous amount of smooth egg custard in the middle.

Those who want a lighter snack can try their Mini Portuguese Egg Tart instead, priced at $3.90 for three and $15 for 12.

Besides egg tarts, the bakery also offers Macau Crispy Puff ($2.50) in two flavours: Wintermelon and Red Bean Paste.

Get them while you can, before the bakery officially closes down.

Those looking for more old-school snacks to try will be happy to know that Uncle Lee Confectionery is set to open its second outlet at Jewel Changi Airport soon!
