Amidst a plethora of restaurants in Dempsey Hill, there’s a hidden gem by the name of Merchant Coffee Roasters that promises an Australian-inspired cafe experience in Singapore. This cafe, which hails from Melbourne, is tucked away in the heart of Dempsey. It’s also surrounded by lots of greenery, which gives you a bit of peace and respite from the bustling city.Â
Though small in size, the cafe offers a cosy ambience that is ideal for a quick coffee run. Also, the white and wooden accents give you a slice of Melbourne, and makes for a great place to visit in particular if you’re missing the city.
If you’re lucky, you might get to meet their amiable furry friend. There are some customers who head down just to visit this adorable guest!Â

Their menu sees a handful of specialty coffee and non-caffeinated drinks. Apart from their Espresso, which costs $4.50, their caffeinated drinks are all priced at $6, including the Cafe Latte, Flat White, Cappuccino, Mocha, Iced Coffee, and Americano. Otherwise, you can opt for their Iced Chocolate ($5) or Orange Juice ($5), which are apt for the sweltering weather.Â
If you love their coffee, you can consider getting their house-blend coffee beans that range from $20 to $50. This is a great alternative for those who don’t live in the vicinity of Dempsey!Â
There are also outdoor seats for those who appreciate a good cuppa while being surrounded by nature.
Another must-try cafe is The Coffee Code, which offers nian gao waffles in Tanjong Pagar. Otherwise, check out Le Matin Patisserie for crab waffles, lemon thyme madeleines and more in Orchard.
