Micro Bakery Kitchen Opens In Tiong Bahru With Japanese-Inspired Sandos And Fresh Bakes Daily

Micro Bakery Kitchen has a new outlet in Tiong Bahru

If you were lamenting the closure of the famous Forty Hands cafe in Tiong Bahru last year, you’d probably want to save your tears for another day. Micro Bakery Kitchen is a newly opened bakery cafe that has taken over the space, with a select menu of brunch mains, breads, pastries and more!

During our visit to Micro Bakery Kitchen in Tiong Bahru, we had the opportunity to speak with owner Bridget Chen and learn about the bakery’s beginnings. Originally a small bakery at Serene Centre, Micro Bakery Kitchen was founded with the goal of providing customers with baked goods made with love.

As demand for their baked products grew, they expanded their business to The Red House in Katong, and now to their newest outlet in Tiong Bahru. All their sourdough bread is naturally leavened and baked fresh in-house daily using sustainable wholegrain flour.

New to their Tiong Bahru outlet is their sandwich menu, which currently features two sandwiches. We tried the Nagaimo Croquette ($18+),  which features a thick deep fried croquette stuffed with mashed mountain yam, coupled with finely chopped mushrooms and cabbage sandwiched between two slices of fluffy milk toast.

If you’re a stickler for cheese, they have a Grilled 4 Cheese ($16+) sandwich that features four different types of cheese within the sandwich: raclette, mozzarella, ricotta, and cheddar.

Other than their sandwiches, they also offer delectable mains. The Duck Ragout ($22+) comes highly recommended, consisting of savoury braised duck in a sourdough galette. It’s accompanied by groats, hulled kernels of cereal grains, served on a tangy lemon butter sauce. The groats provided a nutty and gritty texture, contrasting delightfully with the soft crepe.

Don’t forget to try their baked goods and pastries, which range from cakes, scones, to brownies. If you’re looking for something savoury, their Parmesan Scallion Scone ($5.50+) is an excellent choice, packed with parmesan cheese and green onions. If you prefer cakes, try their Banana Walnut Cake ($6+) or Lemon Yoghurt Chia Cake ($6+), which is said to be popular with their loyal customers.

Finish your meal with their Pink Lemongrass ($6+), a refreshing drink that has sweet, citrusy notes with a mild touch of sour.

For more exciting eats around Tiong Bahru, check out Ah Chiang’s Porridge, a popular charcoal-cooked congee stall that has been open since 1971. Alternatively, if you’re looking for more cafes to visit, pay a visit to Equate Coffee, which has filter coffee, sandos and more in Orchard Central.
