If you’re #teamdurian, you definitely heard of Ms Durian, a Jalan Besar bakery that specialises in durian-flavoured pastries and desserts. To celebrate their fifth anniversary, they have launched three new menu items with a local and nostalgic twist: the Mao Shan Wang Nasi Lemak ($16), Durian Lava Bomb ($12), and Durian Golden Pillow ($10).
The Mao Shan Wang Nasi Lemak features Mao Shan Wang durian and coconut-infused rice alongside chicken wings, ikan bilis, and housemade sambal. This dish was inspired by the age-old tradition of pairing durian and rice together, resulting in a sweet yet savoury delight.Â
For a sweet treat, opt for the Durian Lava Bomb. Drawing inspiration from the fried ice cream you’d find at a pasar malam, Ms Durian introduces a unique twist to this beloved treat. It features warm, crispy yam pouches that are filled with molten durian lava, then topped with a scoop of creamy Mao Shan Wang ice cream.Â
Last but not least, the Durian Golden Pillow is based on goreng pisang. Here, durian is fried till the outer layer is crispy brown, while the interior boasts a mochi-like texture that melts in your mouth. It is topped with sesame seeds and served with a dollop of gula melaka sauce.
These new products will launch on 30 March 2024, so mark your calendar if you’re a durian fan!Â
